volunteer page
Following is a draft of the volunteer page, based on what folks put in earlier. Please read through it, and edit as needed. The plan is to go live with the new page soon, so we need to move as quickly as possible.
Formatting doesn't copy onto here, so if you want to see how it actually looks, go to the test site.
Thanks
Volunteers are key to making the library run!
Library volunteers help set up for and run children's programs, keep the shelves neat and orderly, cover and label books, help people with computer questions, tutor English as a Second Language students, create bookmarks and flyers, and more. They are a valued part of the Library team.
Please note that we take volunteers seriously --- and we expect volunteers to understand their responsibilities. Also, in order to be sure that volunteers can be adequately supervised and effectively used, the Library limits the number of volunteer positions available. Anyone interested in volunteering should complete a volunteer application form (click here for the form).
Library volunteers can receive college credit for internships (with prior approval from the school), volunteer service hours for high school credit, or volunteer credit through RSVP. Court ordered volunteer service credit is possible only under specific criteria, and must be fully discussed with library management. All volunteers get the satisfaction of being an important part of a great team!
Interested?
Adults (over age 18) should be enthusiastic about libraries, willing to perform the services needed, and willing to perform duties in accordance with Library policies and standards. Any adult who may be working with children may be subject to a background investigation. Possible volunteer assignments vary widely, but may include Shelving, Straightening, Clerical Work, assisting with set up and publicity for programs, or providing one on one computer assistance. If you have another idea, please share it! Interested in volunteering at the main Library, email Bernadette Cannady
Interested in volunteering at the Centre Branch, Willards Station, or Bivalve Station, contact Linda Parry
Teens may volunteer at the main library in the Children's Department. Teen volunteers must be over age 13 or older, be willing to perform the duties needed, and be able to meet the schedule as agreed. Duties may include preparing for children's craft activities, straightening and shelving books, helping set up and run children's programs, and more.
Teens interested in the main Library, contact Rachel Jones
Teens interested in computers may join Teen Tech, at the Centre Branch (located in the Centre at Salisbury). Teens must be 13 or older and willing to perform the duties needed and to meet the schedule as agreed. Teen Tech volunteers learn to use computers, assist others on computers, prepare flyers and bookmarks, and assist in web page development.
Interested in Teen Tech, contact Stephanie Ewell
Please be ready to discuss what you would like to do, what time schedule you prefer, and what special skills and experience you bring to the library.

changed the age - but didn't add anything more about summer reading volunteers. Do you want to actively recruit the younger ones?
